WI Tech Month Presents Women in Tech Week: Kate Unger

This “Women in Tech Week” feature is dedicated to Kate Unger, IT Delivery Manager @ Landmark Credit Union.

Kate started her IT career as a customer service rep and trainer at a small software company (Cayen Systems) and worked her way up to being the Development Manager.

She learned BA, QA, and PM skills without any formal training or knowledge of what those positions even were. After her son was born, she looked for a job requiring less hours and responsibilities, so she could better balance her career with motherhood.

Kate worked as a BA at several companies (Trisept Solutions, Assurant Health, Ashley Furniture, and Trusted Media Brands) before beginning a role as a QA/BA at Landmark Credit Union in 2018.

Here she has once again been able to grow in her role to being the IT Delivery Manager over the Data & Analytics practice.

One key story she wants to share with other Women in Tech is that there are other roles in the IT development world beyond just being a programmer/engineer. Schools focus a lot on coding for students in elementary, middle, and high school, but nothing is said about the more “soft skills” roles of BA, QA, and PM and the career paths open to individuals in those roles.

There is great opportunity for women to thrive in this space. Huge shout out to Kate for leading the way as a Women in Tech!
